Braga’s Dark Easter

Braga, in the Minho region of northern Portugal, has a long tradition of celebrating Easter. Braga’s Dark Easter is a photo essay of mine, which features photos from Easter Week processions and masses held in Braga in 2014 and 2015. It looks at the way pain and grief are expressed among devouts, in the context of the mournful atmosphere of the religious commemorations held on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.

As some of you know, I recently attended a Visual Storytelling workshop held in Barcelona by Ed Kashi for Eyes in Progress. I brought these photos with me in Barcelona and edited a shorter and slightly different version of this photo essay with Ed.

In less than a couple of weeks, as part of the workshop package I’ll also have this portfolio, and another one I shot during the workshop in Barcelona, reviewed by a professional photo editor. As someone who’s constantly trying to raise the bar, I’m so looking forward to getting as much feedback as I can about my work.
